Spitzkoppen

Spitzkoppen in Namibia is probably one of the most photographed spots in the country. And with good reason. Located between Usakos and Swakopmund, these granite peaks towers out of a fairly flat desert landscape. What makes it exceptional is the amazing colors of the granite that light up with different colors and shadows, depending on the time of day, or the season. We visited in winter and had no clouds, but the views did not disappoint.

There is something magickal about the area, the caves, the rocks, the hiding places. I can hear the shaman sing and chant, bring healing, calling food, dancing in trans with the snake (healer) inside. In contrast, you are disgusted with human behavior. That steal, plunder and damaged thousands of year old treasures of a country not even their own. Self gain, self center, self enrichment, the disease of the West.

There is something ancient, primal and deep about that area. Some part of my soul ignited amongst the warmth of the sunsetting rocks. Something that want’s to return, to a country that to me, feels like it hides so much more mystery and significance than meets the photographic eye.

It is definitely more than dust, photographs and memories, I brought home with me from Namibia.
