Stealing a Moment

My family is avid surfer enthusiasts and we frequent local surfing spots. You will not catch me dead in the water (think I’ve lived close to the beach for over 20 years now and I’ve gone into the water knee deep twice). It’s not really my thing. But I do like spending time with my family and I do love my camera, so I often hang around on the beach snatching moments like this that present themselves.

Logan and Nicole came out of the water and the light was pretty good, as it was around sunset.  I try to take pictures without people seeing me in that moment – it translate on camera if people are concious that they are being filmed. But I’m not a crazy stalker or something – I generally take the photo and then go to the subjects to get their details so that I can send the pictures to them. Most of the time people agree and I make good on my promise.

What was very sweet about this couple is that Logan reached out to me to ask if I could edit the snaps quicker as he wanted to print it on canvas for Nicole as a suprise for a special celebration. He told me (without going into details) that she’s had a tough day that day, and in that moment, he just reached out to kiss Nicole in order to make her understand that everything was going to be ok.

I just LOVE that kind of love and I love that this little sneeky snap and that moment meant so much to them! Photography really has meaning, and to me, this kind of unexpected capture is my gift and legacy to the world. This couple would long have forgotten my name, but they will have this beautifully captured moment to remember forever.

I love little random acts of kindness. This is how I do it.

Yours in capturing YOU, Leonie
